"Vivid and charming."—CHARLAINE HARRIS, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series He's a firefighter. He's a Motorcycle Club member. And if a killer has his way...he'll take the fall for a murder he didn't commit. Ian Walsh is used to riding the line between the good guys and the bad. He may owe the club his life, but his heart rests with his fire station brothers...and with the girl he's loved since they were kids. Ian would do anything for Rory. He'd die for her. Kill for her. Defend her to his last breath?and he may just have to. Every con in the Rockies knows Rory is the go-to girl for less-than-legal firearms. When she defends herself against a brutal attack, Rory finds herself catapulted into the center of a gang war, with only Ian standing between her and a threat greater than either of them could have imagined. In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder.. Join this pilgrimage to reignite your spiritual lamp with a fresh, empowering faith—a faith that will stand through a time of testing. In a time of increasing wickedness in the world, believers are examining their own spiritual health and walk with God. Some of us who once burned brightly for Jesus find ourselves going through the motions, living out a mediocre faith, and even watching our flames burning out. But God's Word promises "a smoldering wick He will not extinguish" (Matt. 12:20 BSB). He values us and wants to help us identify and remove the obstacles keeping us from intimacy with him and ultimately from fulfilling the purposes he has for our lives. Fanning the Flame identifies and addresses the issues which most affect a believer's spiritual flame: the busyness of life, Christian service, pride, and worldly temptations. Drawing from her forty-year walk with God and travels around the world, Terri brings relevant stories alongside Scriptures to reveal key principles for stirring up and reigniting a Christian’s smoldering embers.

The authors of this document supply much-needed clarification of baptism in the Holy Spirit. They also provide evidence that baptism in the Spirit belongs not to the personal experience of the few, not at all to private piety, but to the public official liturgy of the Church. Baptism in the Spirit is therefore normative. The authors, supported by letters of encouragement from two bishops, suggest ways in which the baptism in the Holy Spirit can be reappropriated by the local parish. Here are the sources of renewal, of on-going conversion, of the power of evangelization. For this reason, this document is of interest to pastors, liturgists, RCIA teams, people involved in the catechumenate, spiritual directors and those in spiritual formation.

A fan favorite from USA TODAY bestselling author Victoria Dahl. Some men are off-limits. Close friends of your ex-husband, for instance. Or firefighters who work in the same building as you. Yet despite her best judgment, librarian Lauren Foster can't help noticing fire captain Jake Davis whenever he jogs by…shirtless. They've always been friends, but all it takes is one not-so-chance meeting at a local bar and one not-quite-innocent walk home to ignite a fierce, uncontrollable desire between them. Widower Jake Davis has tried to ignore the spark he feels whenever Lauren's around, but once he sees her curves in a little black dress, there's no turning back. No matter how often she says she's all wrong for him, the sexy, outspoken divorcée is driving him wild in the best possible way. Maybe she's just blowing off steam. Or maybe he can convince her to fan these flames into something deeper, hotter and truer than they ever expected…. Originally published in 2014.
The Role of Dictionary Use in the Comprehension of Idiom Variants

Authors: Renata Szczepaniak
Categories: Language Arts & Disciplines
Type: BOOK - Published: 2006-01-01 - Publisher: Walter de Gruyter

The book takes up the subject of dictionary use from the perspective of advanced learners. The study aims to explore the effects of the use of a monolingual learner’s dictionary on students’ performance in a complex comprehension task, i.e. the task of interpreting fragments with modified idioms, which often disrupt the fluent reading process. The theoretical part summarises the results of lexicographic research in the field of receptive dictionary use and discusses its methodological aspects. Moreover, it introduces relevant elements of the reading theory and analyses the nature of idiomatic expressions, their transformations in particular, from a psycholinguistic point of view. Finally, problems connected with the presentation of idioms in monolingual learner’s dictionaries are highlighted. The major, empirical part reports on an experiment, whose aim was to find connections between the consultation process, the way of presenting lexicographic information on idioms, and comprehension scores. The results reveal a mildly positive influence of the monolingual learner’s dictionary on reading comprehension performance. Among the reasons for underachievement were misinterpretation of entries and insufficient processing of dictionary information in context.
