The Forty Hadeeth Nawawi is a compilation of forty Ahadeeth by Imam Nawawi, most of which are from the Sahih's of Al-Bukhari and Muslim. This collection of Ahadeeth has been particularly valued over the centuries because it is a distillation, by one of the most eminent and revered authorities in Islamic Jurisprudence, of the foundations of Islamic Law or Shari'ah. In putting together this collection, it was the author's explicit aim that each Hadeeth is a great fundament of Islam, described by the religious scholars as being 'the axis of Islam' or 'the half of Islam' or 'the third of it' or the like, and to make it a rule that these forty Ahadeeth be classified as Sound/Authentic (Sahih). This work is the most representative of the arba' iniyyaat genre of Hadeeth. This eBook is compiled utilizing some of the highest quality and best standards of formatting in order to preserve and distinguish the layout of the eBook. It is an excellent work which caters for a large audience of the English speaking world and can be read by virtually all age groups. Guaranteed to be enjoyed by all those who read it. Scholars have compiled forty hadeeth on faith and belief (usool), on practical matters (furoo), on jihaad, on austerity (zuhd), on etiquette (adaab), and even on sermons (khutbahs). All of these (collections) were concerning righteous aims. May Allaah be pleased with those who sought them. However I have found it best to collect together forty hadeeth which are more important than all of those. These forty hadeeth incorporate all of those separate topics. In fact, each hadeeth is by itself a great general precept from the foundations of the Religion. Some scholars state that all of Islaam revolves around these hadeeth. Some have said, about a particular hadeeth, that they are one-half of Islaam, one third of Islaam and so forth.

It is important for Muslims to take the time to learn about the lives of the pious predecessors. The great scholars and pious individuals of the past can be great examples for the living. Their behavior and actions can have a great effect upon the hearts. Their examples demonstrate that in every age, there were pious Muslims who followed the way of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his noble Companions, without compromise and without giving into the desires of this world. They demonstrate to the Muslims of today that the guidance of the Qur'an and Hadith was sufficient for them to lead their lives in manners pleasing to Allah, although they did not sit with and learn directly from the Prophet (peace be upon him) or even his close Companions. Today, Muslims face many of the same problems, temptations and difficulties that these pious predecessors faced. The pious predecessors read and intensely studied the Qur'an and Hadith to attain guidance for their lives. They applied the Qur'an and Sunnah in their lives under various circumstances. What they derived from the Divine Guidance should be considered a light for all of those who come after them who face circumstances similar to theirs. _This book introduces the literature of Islam as it is presented in English translation. For scholars in other fields who need to understand the vast and complex literary heritage of this erudite and vigorous faith community (but are unable to devote years of their lives to achieving a reading proficiency in classical Arabic), for faculty members called upon to teach introductory or survey courses outside their own disciplines, and for graduate students in theology, medieval studies, world religions, or related fields who need access to these primary sources in English translation, The Literature of Islam is a welcome resource. Even lay readers who are interested in understanding the modern Arab or Islamic world may grasp something of the currents of thought and belief through the centuries that produced these important works, which continue to exert a powerful influence upon Muslims today.
The Theology of the Four Gospels

Biblical theology is the discovery and development of doctrine as found and emphasized by a specific book of the Bible. Instead of beginning with a subject and then searching the scriptures broadly to assemble what may be relevant and illuminate one’s understanding of that specific topic, biblical theology starts with a particular author and focuses upon a specific scriptural unit. The objective is to let the Bible speak for itself and discover what the original writer(s) wanted readers—or those listening to the reading—to understand. Therefore, New Testament biblical theology assists the student in understanding the distinctive doctrinal enrichment each book in the Christian canon brings to the collection of authoritative literature. The Theology of the Four Gospels is designed to engage an individual or group in a fresh study of the teachings of Jesus and the distinctive perspectives of the Four Evangelists—Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Even though everyone participating in the study is examining the same literature, the conclusions may vary widely, which may contribute to a very fruitful discussion. Why should one anticipate a variety of interpretations? Each person comes to the study of the Bible with prior opinions, judgments, and beliefs. These presuppositions have been formed by our culture (e.g., ethnicity, political, social, economic, and religious background), critical knowledge (educational background in history, literature, language, natural abilities, life experiences, and age), and character (moral values, belief in the supernatural, human immortality, accountability, rational choices, and spiritual maturity). This is the goal—to let the Four Gospels speak for themselves. The theological outcome may be tentative and provisional; however, the reader or student becomes engaged in the process of building a sound, personal theology and a steadfast, living faith in Jesus Christ.

In his lifetime, Ibn-Daqiq wrote many books but this has become his most popular. In it he comments on the forty hadiths compiled by Yahya Al-Nawawi and known as the Nawawi Forty Hadiths. His commentary has become so popular that it is virtually impossible for any scholar to write a serious book about the forty hadiths without quoting Ibn-Daqiq. This is the only book that combines the sagacity of Ibn-Daqiq and the vast knowledge of Al-Nawawi. The book was written centuries ago but its benefits are everlasting. The book is indispensible for anyone who wants to study Islam thoroughly and laconically from the masters themselves. We translated from Arabic Ibn-Daqiq's commentary in its entirety. We listed the text of each hadith first and followed it by the commentary. We added a detailed table of contents and thorough explanatory notes. A short introduction to the science of hadith by the translators is also included.
Eastern Rome and the Rise of Islam
Language: en
Pages: 150
Authors: Olof Heilo
Categories: History
Type: BOOK - Published: 2015-11-19 - Publisher: Routledge

The emergence of Islam in the seventh century AD still polarises scholars who seek to separate religious truth from the historical reality with which it is associated. However, history and prophecy are not solely defined by positive evidence or apocalyptic truth, but by human subjects, who consider them to convey distinct messages and in turn make these messages meaningful to others. These messages are mutually interdependent, and analysed together provide new insights into history. It is by way of this concept that Olof Heilo presents the decline of the Eastern Roman Empire as a key to understanding the rise of Islam; two historical processes often perceived as distinct from one another. Eastern Rome and the Rise of Islam highlights significant convergences between Early Islam and the Late Ancient world. It suggests that Islam’s rise is a feature of a common process during which tensions between imperial ambitions and apocalyptic beliefs in Europe and the Middle East cut straight across today’s theological and political definitions. The conquests of Islam, the emergence of the caliphate, and the transformation of the Roman and Christian world are approached from both prophetic anticipations in the Ancient and Late Ancient world, and from the Medieval and Modern receptions of history. In the shadow of their narratives it becomes possible to trace the outline of a shared history of Christianity and Islam. The "Dark Ages" thus emerge not merely as a tale of sound and fury, but as an era of openness, diversity and unexpected possibilities. Approaching the rise of Islam as a historical phenomenon, this book opens new perspectives in the study of early religion and philosophy, as well as providing a valuable resource for students and scholars of Islamic Studies.
